A must read for concerned parents
Dr. Meeker has written a very informative yet alarming book on the realities of teens having sex even with multiple partners. She uses real life stories to exemplify her primary point that teens who choose to have sex and most likely with multiple partners will contract at least one STD. Dr. Meeker titles her book "Epidemic..." because teens all across the United States are contracting STD's at an alarming rate. Dr. Meeker states, "An epidemic occurs when...there is an extensive and growing prevalence of a disease that attacks many people simultaneously." The book is broken into seven chapters. Each of these chapters contains practical advice for navigating relationships. Most of these chapters also challenge the view that relationships should all progress in the same direction, towards an exclusive permanent marriage with children.

Loving Being Single suggests that you don't need to be in a relationship to be happy. Navigating Non-Monogamy tackles the idea that exclusivity is always preferable. Staying Childless by Choice takes on the pressure for everyone to have kids. On Never Getting Married discusses the reasons for not forming a legal union. And Knowing When To Split faces how sometimes ending a relationships is the best option.

Two chapters are a bit different...
A breath of fresh air

Because it's not clear from my user name, I'm a woman. Born in 1969, for age perspective relative to the various waves of feminism. I have indeed been forging my own relationship rules for some time, but I have come up against some trying times with regards to sexism in my marriage even though my husband and I have gone to lengths to craft a meaningful, unconventional relationship according to our rules. Reading other women's very thoughtful, not-at-all-kneejerk reflections on the sexism in their relationships lifted a huge weight off my shoulders that I hadn't even realized was there. I'm very grateful for this book, typos notwithstanding.

Good for beginners

This book is geared towards people who are brand new to the concept of talking dirty. It has a lot of good ideas to help you break out of your shell if you are shy. However, if you are not brand new to talking dirty and are looking for some psychological games to play in bed, or some creative ideas to build on basic dirty talk, you should look elsewhere. By no means am I a pro, but I did not get more than a couple of new words out of this book.

Excellent Guide - Even For Writers!

I like this book for a number of reasons.

The author immediately addresses the issue of "good dirty talk", which is something I believe you can do, still spice things up (a LOT), and avoid the stigma of negative or demeaning dirty talk.

This book is VERY comprehensive, which I also appreciate when I'm purchasing a book, regardless of the price. I am not a fan of writers that cover one topic briefly in order to get people to buy additional books on the same topic. You don't have to worry about that here.

I think this is a great resource for writers, too. I'm a contemporary romance (probably bordering on erotica) author, and honestly I think she covered this topic so well that it will be a resource for me going forward.

She covers "why", the importance of intimacy (which I love), ideas, how to set the stage, and then yes - specifics. :)

This is an excellent book/resource on this topic!

The Ultimate Guide To Talking Dirty is a fun and informative guide for individuals and couples who want to build their intimacy level and heat things up in the bedroom. I read this with my wife and we took turns reading out loud to each other (try it!) and we found it to be exciting and entertaining. Pretty awful
This book has some of the worst nutritional advice I've read for pregnant women. She condemns fat/fatty foods, advises pregnant women to eat low fat, vegetarian diets, and continually uses the entirely different substances 'folate' and 'folic acid' interchangeably. Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate, which can actually cause the birth defects that adequate intake of folate will prevent. The strangest part is she talks about the gene mutation that some women possess that the folic acid will disagree with and be more likely to cause birth defects, yet she still recommends folic acid. It's very confusing if you don't already know about this gene mutation and the difference btw the 2 forms of this vitamin. The other thing that screamed out to me was that she states that an underweight woman with a BMI of 18.5 and below can gain anywhere from 8-40lbs in pregnancy and it is considered a healthy weight gain, while every other BMI had a more acceptable sounding weight gain. Terrible.

I had high hopes for this book, based on the reviews of previous editions. However, all credibility went out the window when I read the section on miscarriages. The very first bullet point under general recommendations said that if you have a miscarriage you might have to "come to terms with whether in your heart of hearts you really want to be pregnant." Umm, WHAT?!?!? If that isn't the most horrifically damaging thing to say to a woman who has lost a pregnancy, then I don't know what is. It is uneducated, antiquated, and downright ignorant to blame the woman for not "wanting" her pregnancy enough. I couldn't take the rest of the book seriously after reading such crap.
