Modern life calls for modern relationship advice. Sex From Scratch is a love and dating guidebook that gleans real-life knowledge from smart people in a variety of nontraditional relationships. Sarah Mirk offers tips and stories from the steadfastly single to people making open relationships work, from people who’ve decided they’re never going to have kids to parents who are consciously producing the next generation. We Need More Books Like This
First off, this book includes an awesome collection of interviews. I was particularly excited for to see contributions from three great sex educators, Tristan Taormino, Wendy-O Matik, and Betty Dodson, and awesome comic artist Erika Moen.

The book is broken into seven chapters. Each of these chapters contains practical advice for navigating relationships. Most of these chapters also challenge the view that relationships should all progress in the same direction, towards an exclusive permanent marriage with children.

Loving Being Single suggests that you don't need to be in a relationship to be happy. Navigating Non-Monogamy tackles the idea that exclusivity is always preferable. Staying Childless by Choice takes on the pressure for everyone to have kids. On Never Getting Married discusses the reasons for not forming a legal union. And Knowing When To Split faces how sometimes ending a relationships is the best option.

Two chapters are a bit different...
A breath of fresh air
Because it's not clear from my user name, I'm a woman. Born in 1969, for age perspective relative to the various waves of feminism. I have indeed been forging my own relationship rules for some time, but I have come up against some trying times with regards to sexism in my marriage even though my husband and I have gone to lengths to craft a meaningful, unconventional relationship according to our rules. Reading other women's very thoughtful, not-at-all-kneejerk reflections on the sexism in their relationships lifted a huge weight off my shoulders that I hadn't even realized was there. I'm very grateful for this book, typos notwithstanding.

A book I'll be talking about with people for years to come
This book is amazing! I've never read anything like it. Get five copies of it so you can share.

Mirk has a gift for asking questions that lead to productive conversations. I can't imagine a better quality for a writer to bring to a book exploring present-day relationships.

Sex from Scratch is honest without being didactic from the very first paragraph: "Look, I don't know what I'm doing. Most advice books are written by people who say they're experts and they sell you on the notion that there are secrets inside that will transform your life. I have to tell you some bad news: I'm no expert. There are no secrets here. Only you can change your life. Sorry."

The blend of Mirk's openness with the "good insights, practical advice, and admissions of honest mistakes" in the book's interviews engaged me in a way that slipped right past my defenses. I was having loads of insights and conversations before I was halfway through.

This kind of thing gives overtake own anticipation, this place has developed into a great buy for myself, The thought came securely and also quickly Tantric Sex for Men: Making Love a Meditation

A revolutionary approach to male sexuality offers the keys to achieving sexual fulfillment

• Teaches how to retain semen for increased vitality and longer lovemaking

• Explains the relationship-strengthening benefits of deep, sustained penetration

• Includes foreplay approaches and position sequences

Fulfilling sex nourishes love, increases vitality, and boosts mental health. Unfortunately, prevailing attitudes about male sexuality and what is good sex work against these innate features by focusing on the excitement of ejaculation as the one and only goal.

Using the tantric guidelines they have practiced for more than 25 years, Diana and Michael Richardson show men how to move beyond their preconceptions of sex as a goal-oriented--and often unintentionally stressful--event so they can relax into sex as a meditative union of complementary energies. They explain how retaining semen allows for increased vitality and extended lovemaking sessions and show the relationship-strengthening benefits of deep, sustained penetration. They also explain how to perform soft penetration and how to avoid premature ejaculation.

Tantric Sex for Men includes tried-and-true foreplay approaches, diagrams of sexual position sequences, ways to increase sexual sensitivity through awareness, and how to have ecstatic experiences through reaching a woman’s body on a sexually deeper level. The authors also demonstrate how the sexual organs can be used to heal both men and women physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Review :
Thanks Diana and Michael
Warm-sex lovers everywhere will be grateful for the many practical tips in this book for tapping the surprisingly powerful (and delicious) effects of effortless sexual union. By simply allowing erections to rise and fall, lovers increase their sensitivity to subtle feelings. Fulfillment comes from something deeper. I'll let the book speak for itself by sharing some excerpts:

"A slippery, smooth, silky, slow, sensual penetration simply has to one of life's greatest joys, for both man and woman. Use lubricant without hesitation and with pleasure, and use it every time."

"If you can remain in the beginning without becoming hot, just remaining warm, then those two warmths will meet and you can prolong the act for a very long time. With no ejaculation, with no throwing energy out, it becomes a meditation, and through it you become whole."

"[The advantage of soft entry] is that both man and woman begin at zero, so to speak, allowing their temperatures to...
Love this book!
Love, love, love it! It has forever changed the way I *see* lovemaking and also the way I do it~~

It takes so much pressure off men to "perform" and brings to light the lovely way our genitals communicate if you can just relax and be conscious of the moment.

I now understand what making love really means and how to do it.

Enriching but perhaps a step to far for some?
Lovely book! I did learn a great deal. But the authors focus on "cool" passion and suggest staying away from "hotness" (such as oral sex and clitoral stimulation). I am reading two other tantra books (Urban Tantra and Tantra for Erotic Empowerment) that combine the two approaches and encompass more/different forms of love making techniques. For me, the latter two are a better fit.
