This is really a great book on "how to" do a paint job on your car. I liked Boyd Coddington's How to Paint Your Hod Rod a bit better, but it has less scope than this book. It covers a new paint job, but this book covers everything...paint types, repairs, resprays and even paint care. A great book.

Good book -excellent overview

This book is great for anyone looking to get started up painting cars, motorcycles, etc. I used this book and have saved a great deal on custom paint jobs restoring classic trucks and street rods. Well worth the money!

Well, I have mixed feelings about this book.
There is a lot of useful information between the covers of this book and it was a great help but I'm left with this vague sense of having missed something even though I read it cover to cover. There is substance but it's a little light on detail which the 170 pages would tend to bear out. While I gained a lot of clues, I still feel that I need to read another book in order to really know what I'm doing. Some how-to books are satisfying like a shotgun blast at close range... Their authors just lay out what you need to know and deliver it in a way that imparts confidence. This book is like being hit by a scattergun from 100 yards- you pick up a lot but don't really know exactly how much flew right on by. This guy kinda meanders all over the place seemingly without a coherent outline. I felt that the author really knows his stuff but left out a lot of necessary context that a beginner like myself needs to form a clear picture. And the typos, (hundreds!) missing sentences, and even...

The illustrations and photographs showing step-by-step procedures are excellent and really give a feel for what the job requires. Common projects such as street rod roll bars, trailer hitches, floor pans, etc., are covered in detail and with spot-on accuracy. Thermal cutting, so often used on car projects, is also covered thoroughly, as are inspection, arc straightening and other tricks of the trade. This book should be in the library of every automotive enthusiast.

Another good general detailing book.

I found the book a little on the general side for the more experienced automotive car care enthusiast such as myself. Ultimate Auto Detailing is probably a little better book in my opinion. The few detailing books that are available don't readily give anymore information than most of the detailing product websites (which seem to be very thorough). If you don't have any basics on detailing consider it, if you already know that there are no true detailing secrets, skip it.

The same old techniques discussed in other detail books

Mr. Taylor has good general knowledge of detailing. How that knowledge would translate into information for experienced professionals is not clear. I can see an auto enthusiast gaining some good general knowledge from this book, however, the knowledge shared is both too general and lacks suffecient explanation. I still haven't found a book that truly shows how the professional detailers make a car into a work of art. Maybe this book comes close, but I was hoping for some honest to goodness tricks and insider techniques!

Good for the novice.

This book is probably better suited for the average person wanting to know how to get their car REALLY clean. Pro deatailers may not get as much out of this as they would like. This book concentrates on what to do, in what order it should be done, and what products to use....and relies mostly on the directions on the products to give you instructions. The high points were the chapters on Wheels & Tires and Interior Detailing. I found they were the most detailed with the instructions given. This book also contains a chapter about Detailing as a Business. Gives the basics about how a detail business is operated. If you haven't read a detailing book before, I would recommend starting with this one before moving on.

Once again, Tony Candela has written a book that has earned a place in my automotive reference library.

This book covers everything that most classic and muscle car guys will run into. Everything from adding courtesy lights (which most classic cars were not equipped with) to building a complete wire harness are covered in great detail with easy to follow steps and pictures. Some installation tips, such as how to properly route large cables into the interior of a vehicle, are just not found in other guides.

Although the main focus of this book is performance projects, the material that is covered can also be applied to nearly all aspects of automotive electronics installations. Adding circuits, performing voltage drop tests, and giving your vehicle a charging system evaluation (to name a few) are examples of the kinds of things that can be used outside of the performance world.

My personal favorite part of the book is in the introduction section where...

I have the first book in this series by Tony Candela. The first book was excellent, my students use this book in class. When I was at the SEMA show 2011 I found this book at the SA book booth and had to have it. I have found that this book takes over where the first left off. I have my students use this book to add to their repertoire of electrical knowledge. I can't say enough about this book.

Performance upgrades made MUCH easier!
Tony Candela knocked it out of the park once again.

If you are like me, I am always a bit leery when I'm installing any sort of aftermarket upgrade to my car, be it a tach, oil, or temp gauge or something as simple as an electric fan. Just something about fiddling with the stock wiring sets me on edge. After reading Automotive Electrical Performance Projects most, if not all, of my concerns and reservations have been extinguished.

Tony starts things off fairly simple with lighting projects, such as upgrading the stock headlights to higher output ones and wiring/adding some interior lights. He even touches base with how to service some of stock components. Well documented schematics and diagrams combined with dozens of full color pictures make each project perfectly straight forward and concise.
